-Baiyon/Tomohisa Kuramitsu

Japanese multimedia Artist (Sound Producer / DJ / Art Director / Graphics Designer) based in Kyoto, Japan.
He made his musical debut in 2004 by providing music to an American documentary film called “MOOG”.
One of the most recent and notable works is the benefit compilation album “Vibes against Vibes vol.1 & 2″ released from his own label Descanso, and a wide variety of artists from 11 countries have joined this project to raise donation and support for the Great East Japan
Earthquake relief efforts.
His collaborative work series “in the collaborations” has now marked its 5th release, and this commemorate 5th collaborator-artist is Los Updates.
Also he recently worked on the remix works of “Ricardo Villalobos, Los Updates – I Throw Water Into The Lake / Miss You So” released from Nice Cat Records.

His art design and sound direction for a Playstation 3 title “PixelJunk™ Eden” in 2008 has received international attention and acclaim from gaming audiences for its unique view. Soon after he has participated in production of LittleBigPlanet2, and was selected as one of 50 of the important game industry people to the current state of the game industry in the “Game Developer” magazine.
Also he has been actively delivering lectures at home and overseas and in 2012 he joined Global Game Jam held in 243 spots of 46 countries as the keynote speaker along with Will Wright.

In June, 2012, ”PixelJunk™ 4am” for PlayStation®Move was released, and Baiyon’s name can be seen in its credit title for art / sound direction and the concept.

His unique view of the world reflected in the crossover between visual design and music creation has been highly acclaimed around the world.

 

2004

Contributed track for the documentary film “MOOG” featuring original opening and ending themes.

2005

Participated in Spring Reverb Festival in San Diego. Live performances in Los Angeles and Tijuana, Mexico

Appearance in DUBLIN ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL, Dublin, Ireland.  Performed together with galaxy to galaxy (UR), Mark Broom, others.

Performance at shobo shobo event in Paris, France.

“CANADA vs JAPAN LIVE PAINTING EXPO” Live painting performance at Aichi Expo 2005.

2006

Release of 1st Album & 7 inch EP “Like a school on lunch time” Mastering by Stephan Mathieu, Artwork by manga illustrator Tsutomu Nihei (Biomega / BLAME!).  EP included exclusive track with doseone (Anticon) and Nakahara Masaya (hair stylistics).

Independently produced single “under the bridge / playground at dusk” wins Qwartz Electronic Music Awards Video Clip Prize.

2007

Took part in Ryuichi Sakamoto’s STOP-ROKKASHO music project.

Second appearance at DUBLIN ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL in Dublin, Ireland.

2008

Goshoguruma EP released by Tokyo-based Techno label WC Recordings. Appeared first on domestic music download site Higher-Frequency.com’s total sales chart.

S Soup EP released by Ireland-based Techno label D1 Recordings.

Art design and sound direction for Playstation 3 software title “PixelJunk™ Eden.” Performed various roles on the production of the game title, receiving international attention among gaming audiences.

ANIPLEX Records release of “PixelJunk™ Eden ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK” in Japan.

DUBLIN ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL in Dublin, Ireland.  Third appearance at the event, performing together with MODEL 500, Laurent Garnier, others.

PixelJunk™ Eden chosen as Official Selection for 12th Japan Media Festival’s Entertainment Category.

PixelJunk™ Eden nominated for various international game awards.

Digital download album PixelJunk™ Eden ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK (Sony Computer Entertainment America) on sale.

2009

GDC 09 / 2009 Game Developers Conference – lecture on PixelJunk Eden: Baiyon’s CMYK vision.

“PixelJunk™ Eden Encore” announced.

“PixelJunk™ 3in1 Pack” on sale in Asian regions outside Japan (Hong Kong、Singapore、Taiwan and SCEAsia territories)
